Altrusa International, Inc. of Martinsville and Henry County Shines at Conference!
The good things that Altrusa International Inc. of Martinsville and Henry County is doing did not go unnoticed at the District Two Conference, held April 30-May 3, 2009, in Reading, Pennsylvania. Attending were four club members, Linda Dorr, First Vice-Governor for the district, Pat Featherstun who served as Credentials Chairman for the conference, Dianne Vann who is Communications Chairman, and Pam Globman, incoming president for the local club. Beginning with a Welcome Reception on Thursday night, conference attendees moved through two full days of general sessions, workshops, luncheon and dinner sessions, and networking with each other. On Sunday morning, members who chose to do so attended an meaningful Interfaith service before departing for their various home destinations.
Among the workshops conducted at the conference was a very effective session on "Nothing But Nets," an initiative to provide bed nets to poor localities with the objective stemming the tide of malaria. Audrey Braver, Altrusa's non-voting representative at the United Nations, presented this session.
