Welcome to Altrusa International, Inc. of Martinsville and Henry County, Virginia.  Please visit our links to learn more about our club.

Altrusa is an international organization that provides community service, develops leadership in it members, fosters international understanding, and encourages friendship through a network of executives and professionals in many diverse fields of endeavor. Altrusa International, Inc. is comprised of over 400 clubs worldwide, with a total membership of approximately 11,000 in 19 countries.

The Martinsville and Henry County Club was organized in July, 1941 with 24 members and was chartered in August, 1941.  The High Point, North Carolina Altrusa Club was the sponsor.  Altrusa International, Inc. of Martinsville and Henry County, Virginia is one of 19 active clubs in District Two with a total membership of over 450.  The club is an organization of professionals dedicated to service, patriotism, efficiency and service.  The Martinsville and Henry County Club meets on the third Saturday of each month for breakfast beginning at 9 o'clock.

M/HC Altrusa Shines At District Conference

The good things that Altrusa International Inc. of Martinsville and Henry County is doing did not go unnoticed at The District Two Conference, held April 30 - May 3, 2009, in Reading, PA.  Attending were four club members, Linda Dorr, First Vice-Governor for the district, Pat Featherstun who served as Credentials Chairman for the conference, Dianne Vann who is Communications Chairman, and Pam Globman, incoming President for the local Club. 

Altrusa International Inc. of Martinsville and Henry County was recognized for the following:

  • Mamie L. Bass Service Award, First Place, Monetary Award of $100

  • Mary S. Resh Program Award, Fist Place

  • Betty C. Schwartz Presidential Excellence Award, Second Place

  • Betty S. Brooks/Letha H. Brown Literacy Award, Second Place

  • Edith W. Nelson Environmental Award, Second Place

  • Irene Mardis Newsletter Award, First Place

  • Patsy Flensborg Conference Exhibit Award, First Place
